JAKARTA – Several community groups and legislators have called on the public not to be provoked into joining the demonstration planned for August 25, 2025. The rally is deemed to lack clear accountability and is considered vulnerable to political exploitation.

Chairman of the Confederation of All-Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Jumhur Hidayat, emphasized that his organization will not participate in the protest.

“Because it is unclear who is responsible and what issues are actually being raised,” Jumhur said in his statement.

He reminded that without clear accountability, the potential for unrest is high and could lead to political conflicts among elites. According to him, the people would ultimately become the victims of an agenda with no clear direction.

“This means sacrificing the people for elite political interests. Therefore, KSPSI—and hopefully all civil society movements, especially our fellow labor movements—will not take part in the action,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives (DPR), together with the government, is seriously pursuing important agendas, one of which is the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset). Chairman of the DPR Legislative Body, Bob Hasan, mentioned that the bill might be reviewed for inclusion in the priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).

“Yes, it is possible (to be reviewed for inclusion in the priority Prolegnas),” he stated.

Bob explained that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is a government initiative that continues to be refined in order to establish strong legal certainty. This step also represents a tangible commitment by the state to eradicate corruption and money laundering practices.

Similarly, Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR, Dede Indra Permana Soediro, also urged all parties to maintain political and security stability.

“Let us create a harmonious and conducive atmosphere. Do not provoke or corner one another; instead, let us support all forms of law enforcement in accordance with the duties and functions regulated by legislation,” he asserted.

Dede further added that the public should remain vigilant against the spread of provocative narratives on social media that could disrupt stability.

Therefore, the public is urged not to join the August 25 protest and instead support the government and DPR, which are currently focused on strengthening regulations for the benefit of the people. ***
